North by Northwest

Keinton Mandeville, Somerset

The Brief:

To construct a contemporary single dwelling on a greenfield site, encapsulating the views to the north of Glastonbury Tor and the Mendip Hills.

The Works:

Due to it being built on a historically quarried piece of land, a structurally reinforced raft was employed.

Key features of the build were its design based around two slightly off set cube structures, constructed using a timber frame which was built on site by ourselves. These were linked by a hallway and stairwell with a two storey glass wall looking out across the Isle of Avalon.

Other prominent features included the large windows, larch timber cladding from Russwood Ltd in Scotland, and a mono pitch sedum (grass) roof which was supplied and fitted by AMP Roofing, based locally in Baltonsborough, Somerset
